A Winter Day In Berlin
A city that earns its character most in the cold
Berlin in winter is a different city from the one most tourists encounter. The summer crowds thin out, the light turns low and golden even at midday, and a snowfall transforms a metropolis already defined by dramatic architecture and wide boulevards into something quieter and more intimate. This film moves through that version of Berlin, from snow-covered streets and landmark buildings to the U-Bahn network threading beneath and above the city, its carriages warm against the cold outside.
The U-Bahn itself is worth noting as more than transport. Berlin's subway system dates to 1902, and its elevated sections pass through some of the city's most visually compelling neighborhoods, offering views of the urban landscape that street level cannot match. In winter, with frost on the windows and the city passing by in muted tones, the ride becomes its own kind of sightseeing.
